Samsung currently suffers from a rather significant disadvantage in battery capacities, with the Galaxy S25 Ultra set to debut equipped with a 5000 mAh battery in an era of flagships sporting batteries north of 6000 mAh. According to a new leak, that could change soon.
As revealed by Jukanlosreve citing Ice Universe, Samsung could be set to deliver much bigger batteries on its 2026 flagship lineup, the Galaxy S26 series. To be exact, the leaker claims the Galaxy S26 series will adopt silicon-carbon batteries when they arrive next year.
Silicon-carbon batteries have slowly been adopted by OEMs over the past six months, with devices like the Xiaomi 15 Pro and OnePlus 13 featuring batteries having capacities in the region of 6000 mAh all debuting in that period. Both devices marked a switch to the chemistry and delivered bigger batteries thanks to the higher energy density offered. For some perspective, their predecessors, the Xiaomi 14 Pro and OnePlus 12, featured 4880 mAh and 5400 mAh units respectively.
The switch to Silicon-Carbon would allow Samsung to increase the battery capacities of the Galaxy S26 series without a tax on physical space. Silicon-carbon batteries generally offer about 10-15% higher energy density than lithium-ion counterparts, indicating the possibility of a device like the Galaxy S26 Ultra featuring a battery in the region of 5500 mAh. Hypothetically, of course.
